Description

Welcome to Ex-prov, where we redefine the art of improvisational theater! At Ex-prov, we believe that improv is, at its core, theater. To perform theater, you need a writer to craft the script, a cast to bring the characters to life, and a director to guide the action. But here’s the twist – in improv, we don’t know who is going to do what, and we don’t have the luxury of time to decide, because the play is starting right now. This means everyone has to do all of the jobs, each one contributing based on the needs of the story, action, and cast.

Improv, as we see it, is not about chaos or simply being silly for laughs. It’s not about intentionally making mistakes to entertain or abusing the audience’s willingness to forgive due to a lack of preparation. Instead, we emphasize that improvisers must possess a deep understanding of story structure, character development, and pacing. In essence, it’s about creating theater on the spot, where the magic lies in the collaboration between performers and their ability to adapt to the unknown.

At Ex-prov, we redefine the two main forms of improv: short form and long form. Short form, contrary to being a series of unrelated games, is more like Madlibs, where depending on the game, the majority of the plot, cast, and pacing is provided, and it’s up to you to fill in the blanks with your creativity and quick thinking. Long-form, on the other hand, is where nothing is provided. and the story, pacing, and characters all have to be created. It’s a blank canvas where you and your fellow improvisers must paint the picture together, creating a cohesive story from scratch.

Our classes at Ex-prov are designed to help you build essential skills in storytelling, acting, and direction.
